New Pain Therapy

Calmare Certified

A technologically advanced solution for chronic pain management. Calmare® has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), drug-resistant chronic neuropathic and cancer pain, having long-lasting effects — an important benefit for both patients and their physicians.

Calmare is an FDA-cleared device proven to reduce pain in 80 percent of patients in clinical trials. It’s non-invasive and drug-free, so you have none of the side effects of opioid drugs and other drugs often prescribed for pain.

Interventional Spine and Pain is now certified Calmare treatment Center.

Interventional Spine and Pain is proud to be the first and only center in Texas and Southwest to offer the Calmare® Pain Therapy Treatment for Chronic Nerve Pain.

Calmare® Pain Therapy is a revolutionary, non-invasive, non-narcotic method for rapid treatment of severe, chronic, high-intensity neuropathic pain, failed back syndrome, low back pain, oncologic pain, lumbar radiculopathy and cervical radiculopathy pain resistant to opioids and nerve pain medications. This new and exciting FDA cleared pain therapy treats pain through a biophysical rather than a biochemical process. During treatments pain is completely eliminated, regardless of pain intensity. With subsequent treatments, the pain intensity diminishes and ultimately disappears in a high percentage of cases.

What is Calmare® Pain Therapy Treatment

Calmare® Pain Therapy Treatment (Calmare) is a U.S. FDA 510(k)-cleared and European CE mark-certified pain therapy medical device for the non-invasive treatment of chronic neuropathic and oncologic pain. Calmare® avoids the harmful, potentially fatal, adverse side effects and addictive properties linked to narcotic pain killers.

Calmare® has successfully treated over 4,000 patients worldwide, where it has been shown to be effective in treating neuropathic and oncologic pain.

How it Works

Calmare® Pain Therapy Treatment uses a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach. A ‘no-pain’ message is transmitted to the nerve via disposable surface electrodes applied to the skin in the region of the patient’s pain. The perception of pain is cancelled when the no-pain message replaces that of pain, by using the same pathway through the surface electrodes in a non-invasive way. Regardless of pain intensity, a patients’s pain can be completely removed for immediate relief.

Maximum benefit is achieved through follow-up treatments. The patient may be able to go for extended periods of time between subsequent treatments while experiencing significant pain control and relief. The period of time between treatments depends on the underlying cause and severity of the pain in addition to other factors.

Calmare®:  What to Expect

  • Patients relax comfortably in a quiet room during treatment. Most sessions take less than an hour. The standard treatment is 10 sessions. Some patients require a booster treatment in a few months. Please follow the instructions below in preparation for your Calmare® treatment.
  • Don’t wear lotions, creams, powders or ointments on areas being treated.
  • Wear comfortable clothing. Hospital gowns can also be worn.
  • If you’re taking a nerve medication like Gabapentin® or Lyrica®, consult your doctor. You’ll need to stop taking it 48-72 hours prior to treatment.

How is the Calmare device different from a tens machine?

The scrambler machine has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which identifies the device as a unique entity, unlike anything else in the market (i.e. a tens unit).

In regard to comparing the MC-5A scrambler machine to a tens unit, the two devices have marked differences:
The Calmare MC-5A device creates a low-energy electrical impulse which travels through the patient’s nerves delivering a “no-pain” signal to the brain using 16 distinct algorithms. This process “tricks” the brain that the area of pain is normal and eventually results in prolonged pain relief.

TENS units use high energy electrical impulses to block pain signals or distract the brain, but when treatment stops, the pain usually returns. It emits an electronic message over one single algorithm.

A tens unit is self-administered by the patient whereas the scrambler is administered by a trained medical professional.
